New Weavings

I recently began creating mini weavings with the classic 4x6 glossy prints that you can get printed at the drugstore or from the online print shops. The project started with two photos from my trip to Japan that I had wanted to weave together for awhile: one of Michael and Daniela outside the best ramen restaurant and the other of a rose bush. I loved creating the mini weaving so much that I had more of my recent film photographs printed so I could keep making weavings.

Film photographs from Tokyo, Japan, 2020.

One of the qualities that appealed to me with these mini weavings was the ease and quickness of the work. The glossy strips of paper glide so smoothly between each other, and the smallness of the photographs lets me cut and weave them all in one sitting. This project has been helpful in getting me to create more regularly again.

I finished the two weavings below this week, both made from photographs taken in 2020. The weaving on the left pairs a photo of my sister laying in the sun with a photo of a blossom from a nearby tree, both taken in Columbus, Indiana in May. The weaving on the right is of waterlilies and moss mounds taken in the Parklands in November.
